Everyday Meditation - Day 1 - The Beginning
We live in the age of information, everywhere you turn you are bombarded with data in some form. As the amount of data one has to process increases, so does the strain this puts in your brain. This leads to stress and anxiety, which have a massive impact on clouding ones judgement, but on your overall physical health.also
Having experienced this myself, I began my quest to find something that would help me combat this and keep me calm. I found what I had been looking in the form of an ancient Chinese philosophy called Taoism. I was gifted a book by a mentor on the Taoist philosophy and meditation methods that have helped me achieve an energy equilibrium within. This has allowed me to think with more clarity, enabling me to make better decisions, thus impacting my life positively.
Now every day when I wake up, I start my reading one page from this book followed by a 10 minute meditation. Despite the misconceptions, meditation isn't about thinking of nothing, that impossible unless you spent years training. For me meditation has been about allowing my thoughts to flow, but being able control the attention I put on them. There are so many ways one can meditate, but the way I do it is by sitting in silence and focus on my breathing.
Due to the positive impact meditation has had on my life, I will be sharing an extract from the book daily, to hopefully help benefit the Steemit community.
The first excerpt I would like to share is:
"Beginning
This is the moment of embarking
All auspicious signs are in place.
In the beginning all things are hopeful. We prepare ourselves to start a new. Though we may be intent on the magnificent journey ahead, all things are contained in the first moment: Our optimism, our faith, our resolution, our innocence. In order to start we mus make a decision. This decision is a commitment to daily self-cultivation. We must make a strong connection to our inner selves. Outside matters are superfluous. Alone and naked, we negotiate all of lifes travails. Therefore, we alone must make something of ourselves, transforming ourselves into instruments for experiencing the deepest spiritual essence of life. Once we make our decision, all things will come to us. Auspicious signs are not a superstition, but a confirmation. They are a response. It is said that if on chooses to pray to a rock with enough devotion, even that rock will come alive. In the same way, once we choose to commit ourselves to spiritual practice, even the mountains and valleys will reverberate to the sound of our purpose. "
