Banish The Negative
. . . with the power of positive thinking, writes BK SWATHI PRASAD
Today, there is a growing awareness about mind-body wellness. This equipoise of mind and body is decisive in more ways than one. Our thoughts have a direct impact on our body and crucially affect our emotional and physical well-being. Thus, most of our ailments are psychosomatic in nature. Factors that influence and ensure good health are well-known — proper diet, exercise and rest. Likewise, positivity is food for thought, a little contemplation is mental exercise and meditation is rest for our mind. Therefore, the key to inner wellness is a happy mind.
Positive Success
Having a positive approach to life means that no matter what the situation, ‘approach it successfully’. Here, success is defined by our attitude, and not by the gravity of our circumstances. Ensure that one is never overwhelmed by prevailing conditions. Instead, stay firmly rooted in the belief that whatever has come our way is here for a reason: to make me stronger, or perhaps to open the doors to something better. When we act from this place of inner acceptance, there is a shift in our energy field resulting in a flow of positive energy. A mind that is still and serene helps you see a deeper meaning in every situation.
On the surface, things may appear far worse than they are; however, a positive approach will empower you to see the benevolence of the situation. Often, it is impossible to think positively in trying circumstances. During such times, our response is based on our habitual thinking developed over a period of time. If we form the pattern of thinking positively, we respond positively without any effort. The practice of thinking positively finishes the negatives. So conduct a little contemplative workshop with yourself. Consciously practise choosing a positive response to negative situations.
We are the masters of our mind so we can choose to create the thoughts we want. When we stay firmly grounded in positive thinking, we will stir clear from criticising others and focus only on the positives. The outcome will be good for us. The power of positive thinking will then help diffuse a crisis.
Cook With Care
Another aspect of negative thoughts is the way it affects everything we do. It casts long shadows on how we look at life. For instance, when we are cooking, what are the thoughts running through our heads? While we are chopping, stirring, rolling, baking or frying, our mind is active and we are constantly thinking. What is the tinge and flavour of our thoughts? Are they dark and unsavoury or are they bright and wholesome? Count on them to influence the taste of the dish that we have whipped up. So, let us cook with care and watch what we are thinking. If unable to practise positivity despite effort, meditation will give us a helping hand. Through meditation, we connect with the Supreme Being and experience a tranquil state that overcomes negativity and infuses us with positive power. ■
