Making the Most of the Situation
Hello my dear Steemian friends! My blog entries have been scarce as of late and I thought it was time for a few pictures to update you on life.
Abi and I have a close friend whose parents passed away within a year of each other. Being the only child, she has had a great deal of legal work to handle as she closes their estate and a mountain of belongings to sort through at their home.
Yes, that is a room packed from floor to ceiling. Our friend’s dad acted as a hoarder for much of his life, and as such was able to fill a 3 bedroom home with a few goodies.
In total, there have been 300 yards worth of items that we tossed in the garbage. The dumpsters we rented could hold 30 yards, and we just finished the tenth one this past weekend.
It has been arduous and rewarding clearing one room at a time. We found many surprises - a decomposed squirrel amongst some stuffed animals - in our digging, and it is refreshing to be done with the cleanup phase of the job.
The house is about ready for the estate sale in a few weeks, and it will be good to have this burden off our friend’s shoulders.
All I can say, is make certain to hold your possessions lightly, lol.
On a lighter note, here is a nice sunset from the U.S. side of Lake Erie.
Thank you for posting @lydon.sipe.
What lovely help you two are to a friend in need....which I am sure is appreciated more than you know.
Yes....hold your possesions lightly...hehe...that is a good one.
All the best to you and @mustardseed. ^__^
Cheers.
I have done it 3 times for family members that have passed. Hiring out the job may be easier, yet I think it is a special service as well as a way to honor them with dignity.
This was a true act of love, lydon. Deb & I spent an afternoon attempting to declutter our basement - we managed to clear one side! We have so many things we were keeping for the kids, but they're now scattered to the four winds. It's hard letting go, but eventually we all have to surrender - one way or the other, lol
I have hoarder genes that I'm trying to eliminate...
When my mother passed, my brother and our son did the family a service by dealing with a houseful of a lifetime of clutter...
Deep, deep sigh... Glad to hear you were able to bless this friend!
😄😇😄
The truth is that if we had missed your entries to your blog, we see that it was a daunting task the sort things. Since then I imagine the satisfaction that you had to complete this task. By the way I am delighted at the sight on the Lake Erie. Receives a hug affectionate
Nice to see your blog post after a very long time seems like you are very busy thanks for these updates work comes first :)
Haha, indeed. Hope you are well, @blazing! :)
haha yeah blazing as always :D
it's really good that you helped out a friend. Because i didn't understand you threw all these things in the rented dumpsters you kept it?
No, the dumpsters we filled were for the items we trashed. Some things were not worth keeping.
ahh ok then cause i understand that everything went to garbage :P
Been there, done that. Won't do that again! ;-)
The photographies are amazing.
Haha you are making use of the most what you have got.
