Overwhelm: Creating mental white space

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I love Marie Forleo, I've been watching her youtube channel for years, and her tips, tools and words of wisdom have helped me through some difficult spots. It's great to see that she now releases her show as a podcast too. I highly recommend that you check her out. She's on itunes and spotify.

Of all of the various tools she has described, creating mental white space has to be my favourite. It's perfect for when you're feeling so overwhelmed that you don't know where to start...

It only takes a few minutes, but can be such a relief! The first time I did  this I found that I had a lot of 'extras' on there, that I didn't really need or want to  do, but felt that I should. Deciding to let them go was wonderful. I don't do this regularly, but it's a great tool to have on hand for when it all feels too much!

Just to add, this is also great when you're trying to get clarity about a situation, decision or even 'just' your values/priorities. At the moment I'm thinking about all of those things and this exercise has really helped. Just grab a piece of paper (the bigger the better), some pens, and go for it... It's actually quite surprising what comes up sometimes!
