Types of Drinkers

in #life7 years ago

There is a saying by Frank Sinatra I think everyone who has drunk alcohol in excess can identify with. The saying goes, I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day. From as far back as the early days of America, alcohol has seemingly always been viewed as benign and even as a blessing. Occasional drunkenness seemed to always be accepted and tolerated in the parts of everyday life. This acceptance and tolerance included at work, social gatherings, and other events. However, on the flip-side, drinking in a non-social, alcoholic way has always been held in low regard. Strong social penalties always surrounded this type of abuse of alcohol. People drink for an array of reasons, but the one thing that they can all agree on is their love for alcohol, in its many forms. The different types drinkers of drinkers can be delineated as, the drinker who believes certain alcoholic beverages are an important accompaniment to food, folks that look at certain spirits as a relatively inexpensive and effective way to relax, a binge drinker, the drinker who loves to travel and experiment with different cultures and traditions related to alcohol.

Take, for instance, the drinker who believes certain alcoholic beverages are an important accompaniment to food; pairing wines with cheeses, or certain liquors with different meats. This drinker seems to be very savvy, and they would be the connoisseur in regards to which alcohols bring out the best in food, or the best in what the alcohol is mixed with. There seems to be, in these folks, a love for the relationship between certain drinks and certain foods. They believe somehow the world would be perfect if there were found a perfect blend between food and spirits.

Then you have the folks that look at certain spirits as a relatively inexpensive and effective way to relax. These types of drinkers are simply looking to enjoy a drink in moderation, usually having a certain place, to enjoy a specific beer or cocktail. The time is often spent with friends and family, in recap of their day or week of labor. Lastly, history states that these drinkers enjoy the social aspect that accompanies the certain alcoholic beverage of their choice.

Next, there is a binge drinker, one who typically exhibits a clear type of behavior that is not usually socially acceptable. Although it is very common in our culture for certain drinkers to be bingers, this type of drinking can contribute to different types of social problems. For whatever reason, the love of certain or all alcohols seems to override common sense and thus breeds problems. Usually, this kind of drinker chooses social outlets, but does not consume the alcohol in small amounts. On the contrary, this type of drinker usually drinks in excess, and exhibits this behavior on a multitude of occasions.

On a different note, you have the drinker who simply loves to travel around, experiment with, and taste all the different alcoholic beverages that different cultures have creatively crafted. These creative crafts include beers, wines, and cocktails of all different styles and traditions. The drinker usually likes to go out to different corners of the world, in all different types of settings and scenarios, and they try out all different types of beers, wines or cocktails. There really isn’t anything too complex about this drinker, and they are not on a journey to find “the one drink” that beats all of the others. Rather these folks are grateful, and appreciate the creativity of these beers, and how they have come to be. One could often describe this type as a historian of beers, as they love to hear the different stories of how the beers were crafted, where they originated, and what makes them special.

What seems to be clear among all these different categories of drinkers is one common theme: the love of spirits, in their different forms, and for all different reasons. The shared love of spirits, in all of their creative glory, can bring together families, friends, acquaintances, and connoisseurs of all different kinds. This commonality usually has the potential to be shared in a socially acceptable, relaxing, and responsible fashion. Enjoying spirits in whatever variety they may be served in, seems to always be the goal. Personally, I would fall under the category of the type who enjoys certain wines and spirits, as an inexpensive way to relax with friends and families. Hope you all enjoyed, and thanks for stopping by.
