Meditation: Learning to be Still

in #meditation4 years ago (edited)

Prior to September 2018, I had never meditated before. If you asked me what it was, I would have said it seemed beneficial, but I was put off by the Eastern Mysticism of it all. My views have changed since then.

I consider meditation to be a spiritual discipline, as I do with prayer. Together, they have yielded results for me that I did not receive via prayer alone. Why you might ask? I get to that in a second.

There is one more thing that I wish to highlight, and that is the sufficiency of Scripture. As a Christian, Scripture guides every detail of my life. How I think, speak, and act are all filtered through the special revelation of God’s Word. Anything that does not agree with that Word, or point to the glory of God, I have a problem with.

Now, that disclaimer aside, why is meditation important to me? Because it has taught me to be still, and enjoy my Father’s presence.

So often prayer can be a means to treat my Father like a vending machine. And frankly, that is how I viewed my earthly father in some ways growing up - it is what I wrote on some notes and spoke about with my mother. Hence, it is how I approached my Heavenly Father more times than not.

However, there is something special that happens in our daily life when we walk in gratitude. We approach people, our Father in heaven, or anyone for that matter with a delight to see them. People are so much more friendly when you are elated to see them, when your eyes light up and a smile crosses your face at their presence. Why would our Heavenly Father be any different?

Now, to be sure, He is much more gentle and forgiving than anyone else we could ever meet. Thus, He gives us time to grow into that mature peace. To me, meditation coupled with the disciplines of prayer and time in His word, are invaluable to have that peace.

For anyone that is already practicing meditation, I offer you two things that may be useful to you. I wrote an article about Solfeggio Frequencies a few weeks ago, and then another one on Shungite Stone. Those are two items that I incorporate into prayer and meditation time as they help me balance my energy field.

I pray that anyone who is skeptical approaches meditation with an open mind. Give yourself permission to change, and give yourself permission to learn something about how the God of the universe created us, and His world to operate. It may blow you away, once again, how wonderful He truly is.

Was just reading a few articles on the God frequency - I agree with you that you tune in on Ps 46:10 ...listening and praying for what or who the Holy Spirit brings to mind is praying in the spirit and yes, I also pray in a full gospel way. Speaking of which, are you now in a family way or fully delivered? :)

You are a wise man, John Geddes. Not yet, we are still waiting.

Me too! These are happy days, my friend :)

Yoga and meditation is all about being still, good piece 🙌

Absolutely. Thank you!

My friend, you've once more got me thinking, thinking...

I need more "alone time" with my friend Jesus. I'm reminded that Enoch walked with God, that our first parents also did (before they fell), and that I still have a great deal to learn about what that means.

Also thinking about all the Steemit articles that have passed through my mind, but that never were... Time is so fleeting... I am so easily diverted...

I breathed hydrogen yesterday. Time to button up the machine and set it up for my wife to use. :D

😄😇😉

@creatr

It is a most precious thing, my friend. I pray you make time to be with Jesus.

That is exciting news! Grateful for your persistence.

Very interesting! I should get back to my meditation too! Been too lazy and reckless lately!

Have a nice day!

May you persist into stillness indeed!

Thank you! And you as well!

Howdy sir lydon.sipe! Very interesting quotes on those memes you have sir. Very interesting post too, most of us need to spend more time in meditation AND prayer, I think we could change the world if we did!

Heaven on earth indeed!
