Mackenzie misses weight Bigtime, Still Wins and now is in the Rankings! [eng] [maori]

The undefeated 25-year-old weighed in with over an hour remaining and did not even make a second attempt. Dern has already failed twice to make the cut on her weightclass making this her third but has successfully made the weight for her Octagon debut this past March at UFC 222, but showing a lackluster fight and narrowly beating her competition, Ashley Yoder via split decision.
Despite this, her opponent Amanda Cooper was able to make the weight and even agreed to still fight Dern albeit a catchweight bout. Due to this the commission has decided to penalize 10 percent of Dern's purse and award it to Cooper due to the infraction. Further penalties were handed down by the UFC Brass they announced that an additional 20 percent of Dern’s show money, which will now be a 30%. Online critics were quick to say that Dern still stands to make more than her opponent barring Cooper to win a bonus.
When Cooper was asked about the recent events she was quick to show dismay and has shared her thoughts on Twitter regarding the situation:

The Season 23 of The Ultimate Fighter finalist Amanda "ABC" Cooper was marked by many to be another stepping stone for the surging Brazilian and with the crowd against her come fight night this will be a very entertaining fight to watch. I'd like to point out that she had one whoe hour to try and cut more weight but she did not try. I know I've already pointed it out but let that sink in to you. She was in a main card on her home turf and she was not sick nor injured. In her defense this was a quick turn around for her, but on a recent interview of Nina Ansarroff (title contender Rocky Pennington's fiance) mentioned that she once had to cut from 140 to 115 in four weeks time which was way harder than Dern as she had 2 months to prepare and this was a fight that she had requested to be in. This clearly does not bode well for the young brazillan Jiu Jitsu Ace.

With the crowd still in support with the young Brazillian phenom, Mackenzie was able to land a big overhand that hit Amanda hard and they were soon on the ground where Dern's skill definitely outshines her opponent. Shortly after that Amanda succumbed to the threat of choking and submitted.

I watched the Ladys' UFC fights and those girls are more vicious than some of the guys. I remember in high school when girls fought shit got real. They didn't hurt each other much but they give it all they got.
Yeah, the quality of fighting is lesser but in no way less vicious take Amanda and Cyborg those women are savages in battle, and one weird thing though is that after the fight they still very much hate each other.
Yea, I feel like the guys go out and get the show going. The girls go out and they try to kill each other.

@meansteemachine I think Dern is undeserving of her hype coming into the UFC. Her last fight was pretty pitiful and she barely won that. The girl needs to go up two weight classes at this point and, if she actually did cut weight and could only get down to 123, she probably needs to move up to 145 or realize that she does really have to train every day. Masvidal is running that mouth again, but no one cares - not even Neil Magny. And Eddie Alvarez needs to go to bed. He's literally so annoying!!
