What is a flow state and how that has to do with you not hearing from me for the last two months

My dear fellow Steemians,

The Flow state.png

I know, it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. And that after I started off with such a passionate and enthusiastic introduction post. At that point - thank you for your warm welcome and support! Feels good to know that my words somehow resonate with you people out there.

So what’s been the great obstacle holding me back from sharing my inner world with you?
Looking back at the last two months and reflecting upon my turbulent monkey mind, the least I can do now is share my two big learnings with you. I hope you can relate to it and perhaps even adopt one or two ideas.

FIRST: You can only act from a place of higher creativeness if you’re guided by your heart – not your head.
In my case, the last two months were truly head-dominated months. I was overthinking literally everything. There were some big decisions to take, a new home in a different country, I started a new project which got me into being self-employed, and so on and so forth. And honestly, that power mode I was in was probably needed during that period.

I was in an intellect over intuition mode.

And I found out for myself long ago, that during those periods I am empowering myself to do amazing things and go to great lengths, but I am not in the mode to create from the place that has to be my heart in order to for my creations to be at a higher vibration.

But that is absolutely ok. It’s the counters-state to the more vulnerable, emotional and sensitive heart-state. Sometimes that fierceness, determinedness and rationality can be just what is needed at that point in time.

So don’t try to force any creative outpourings – if they don’t flow that probably means that you are not in the right flow state.

SECOND: How to flow through life

So I accepted not being in a heart-state and embraced it. However, at one point (and that’s the point where accepting and surrendering no longer work for me) I watched myself becoming not only head-driven, but rather stressed, tense and restless. In short, I wasn’t in my flow. I was acting from a place of resistance, leading me (surprise) nowhere but to sleepless nights, numbness and a focus on results rather than enjoying the journey.

Luckily I received a broad hint from the universe and stumbled upon the concept of Flow.
A flow state, ccording to positive psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, is defined as an “optimal state of consciousness where we feel our best and perform our best.”

It’s like being in the zone, with the mind not wandering but completely immersed in the present, time flies and the ego dissolves. Your whole being is involved in your actions, and every action is in tune with another just like the beautiful and holistic creation of an orchestra.

Meaning that if you are a writer, words just flow.

There’s a lot of research and plenty of concepts on how to reach a state of flow. What works for me is deep embodiment. A kind of full body awareness. Living with all your senses and paying attention to your breath.

A daily morning meditation brought me back to my state of flow and here I am, writing from my state of flow after a quick morning meditation by Dr. Joe Dispenza.

Namaste from @svenjawho, may you all flow through the day!

What an interesting person you are! I enjoyed reading your intro post and this one a lot :) I hope to read (someday - when another right flow state comes in) about your meditation routine and keeping the discipline to meditate daily.

Thank you my dear :) I will surely share some of my meditation insights with you!
Even though I have to admit that the daily is sometimes flexible, depending on -again- my flow ;)

As a creative, highly sensitive person, I totally get this. I am glad to have you back on here though ( having liked the vibe of your intro post and all )

I found a lot of wisdom in Taoism and peace of mind, as well as many other benefits in meditation. Have you considered joining the group meditation on discord? More info can be found here: @bewithbreath @naturalmedicine

Are you using Discord at all? I am eager to answer any questions you might have :>)

Thanks for the positive resonance :)

As for the group meditations, I am still more the by-myself-meditator.. but let's see what the future brings

As for Discord, I just recently joined! Feeling slightly more drawn to the offline world at the moment however. But once the flow drags me towards socialising offline, I will for sure have loads of questions for you :D

Nice to hear back from you and to learn that you installed Discord.

I totally get the ‘more drawn to the offline world’ urge. Take your time with whatever decision you want to make and keep following your heart :>)

Amitabha @svenjawho ! I like the symphony or imagining a holistic orchestra where we are all an instrument, each playing its part by experiencing the piece! What a beautiful post! Welcome to Steem again. I like your Mihály Csíkszentmihályi Quote. To experience the flow at a mindful pace and paying attention to the beautiful details makes one perform uniquely. I flow best as well when i look at things holistically and when able to focus on one thing at a time. Coming from a person being scattered in so many activities and interests i can relate to you take on the monkey mind. I can tell you don’t just think with your mind but feel with your heart. Thank you for sharing this!
