As a kid, I read about lucid dreaming and was eventually able to have a sense of consciousness in some of my dreams where I could sort of control what I was dreaming about. It's really fascinating to think about how part of my brain was making up the dream, while some other part was able to direct it. There are definitely different levels of our emotions, and empathy is definitely up there towards the top
