OpenMic Judges are not the Final! All in All say to your talent.
OpenMic Judges @soundlegion @krystle @meno @passion-ground @verbal-d and head openmic man in charge @luzcypher are not the final calls on your talent, and we do not think we are either. Our critiques of your performances start and end with Steemit OpenMic only.
I get a lot of comments and messages from people wondering why they are not in my top picks for the week on openmic. Some people have expressed they keep trying each week harder and harder and its not reflecting in the judges outcomes or final outcome. I have also noticed some misunderstandings and a little bit of hate towards myself and some of the other judges and @luzcypher.
Everyone is doing the best they can each week to make sure everything with openmic runs as smoothly as it can. @luzcypher takes on a huge amount of work to create the entry posts and contest posts each week. His by far is the most tasking job here on steemit I am sure. Things will not always be perfect, but everyone here aims high. For @luzcypher this is a full time job. Some people have expressed a feeling that they are not good enough and also questioning judges intentions and that is where I would really like to come in.
In my opinion what needs to be understood most here is that you need to let nobody tell you that you are not good enough, there is no judge or critique on this planet who has an all and all say to your talent. Your drive and belief in yourself is what will carry you the farthest in your musical career or journey. If you feel the music others around you will feel the music as well and there will always be those who do not.
In terms of if we are feeling your music or not, I can only speak for myself here and we get hundreds and hundreds of entries each and every week. The truth is I enjoy almost all of them, I appreciate people putting themselves out there in sound and music as its something I do myself every single day. Those who follow my personal music know I explore all types of genres and sound ideas. I appreciate the passion the most. I really love seeing people with heart for a song jump in and give us there take on it, or create an original sound piece that carries us to a spot in there life and there journey. I have favorites when it comes to steemit openmic and I try very hard to not be bias to those grown attachments and be fair to all the sounds being offered up. Having worked with so many different people myself in the music industry across so many different styles I think I have a good ear for what people will like and enjoy the most and I try to keep the range broad. With steemit openmic there are lots of options to choose from lots of sounds to sort through and I feel honored to get to put together my own personal palette each week of what I think were highlight entries that everyone will enjoy. I also enjoy looking over the other judges picks for the week and seeing where we lined up and even where we didn't. Every single time I pull up @krystle or @verbal-d or @passion-grounds or @meno's posts I am always nodding my head in appreciation for there picks and think they are completely justified, I may even second guess my own picks in those moments, that's human nature. I can imagine its the same for each of the other judges, we get to speak as a group sometimes in Discord so we can touch base, but we are all still free roaming entities out here doing the best we can to make sure the best songs get heard each week. We are not always right for what someone else might think, but in the end its what was right for steemit openmic. You could write a song for steemit openmic and it get no attention at all and then use that song somewhere else and it get loads of attention and praise.
Your passion is your airplane that will carry you as far as you want to go, your fire is the fuel and Steemit OpenMic is only a stop along the way. I believe in each and ever single one of you putting out your real entries to us each week. As for my top 5's and honorable mentions each week. Lets be real here, it depends on my mood. Whats gonna hit me today may hit me differently tomorrow and so many of you guys are so damn awesome. I want to start dropping names but that will just take me ages and there would be hundreds and I would leave someone out and there would be hurt feelings. lol Common guys your feelin me here right?
Nothing but love from myself to all of you artists, all your awesome entries, all your fantastic songs and mind blowing performances. I'm a person who likes to make music, collaborate music, share music, listen to music, promote music. Its what I do, its sometimes all I do. I am not just an steemit openmic judge, I am also a full time music creator and promoter. I also created the Steemit Artists Music Compilation featuring multi genre artists original tracks from musical members of this great community. I make these volume compilations wide in range for sound, trying to give everybody a taste of something new and fresh, or maybe familiar and comforting. Each volume is a fun ride or original sound. These sounds inspire me, add more fuel for my airplane and its what i'm trying to do for all of you. That's why i'm here. My passion mixing with your passion! passions flooding! creative energies soaring! Passion Babies all around!
Soooo!!! only you are the final all in all say to your talent. I love ya all no matter what! Even if I didn't like your sound! I got no hate. We are all on this ball together - sorry flat earth folks you haven't got me yet ;)
Shavon Bonnie Legion
Great advice - i've been making music for over 13 years - and your never going to win every race - i put countless tracks into opps in the past that didn't make the cut - But keep going and keep making the music YOU like and want to make, and eventually you will get to where you want to be - or at least a little further :)
You can't really have a go at the people judging they cant pick every track - But there's always a next time, as long as youre getting better then -Never give up :)
Once many years ago I took my dad,( who had told me not to pursue music because I wasn't good enough), into the studio to listen to my new album on studio monitors. He was stunned! I said to him,"dad this is the difference between $20 equipment and $20,000 equipment." to date, I have licensed 3 songs from that album!...and still working on more. It doesn't even matter if we are good enough, our inner being wants to cry out, to relate, to connect. It is a part of our human condition and turns out often to be the part we and others enjoy the most. Keep it up Bonnie!
thank you so much @revdocwelch for sharing your story here in the comments. That inspired me greatly to hear, and to know someone was listening to what I was saying. I greatly appreciate your passion my friend and the fact that you didnt give up when someone told you that you couldnt and here you are today making wonderful music for others to enjoy. bless you
I am grateful for this venue that allows me to work from home yet have a potential of many listeners. Playing for a live audience is also very gratifying, especially if they respond! Just glad to be on this side of the ground with guitar in hand! I did write a song called "I want to play Steel Guitar In Heaven In The Band." Definitely couln't manage it on this side!

good for you to keep going! if we listen to the naysayers, thats how dreams are deterred and and masterpieces are squandered before they even had the chance to begin.
Well stated with the utmost love and respect for artists! You go, girlfriend!
It most certainly is the exact same for me! :-)
Very well spoke @soundlegion. To me, the whole idea of a music contest is kind of silly as music is not really a competition. Open Mic is really about building a community of musicians on Steemit and as the community has grown there are many musicians who support each other. Dangling a prize was just a way to get people to put themselves out there, but was never the main idea for Open Mic.
I too get a lot of people complaining about not getting upvoted right after they post and sometimes they jump to conclusions and make accusations that can be hurtful. As if we are really judging their music as opposed to just curating music and providing connections for the music community.
Building community through music is something you're very good at and I feel blessed you're part of this thing. Kepp on keeping on sister and let's keep the music the main thing.
I really appreciate all the hard work you put in for openmic @luzcypher ! Its incredible how far its come and over the next year I see so much more growing out of it. Blessings to you all day for everything you do, your inspiration to me and for giving me another direction I can focus my musical energies. big love x
I don't know bout the others on here, but I can bet on my life this is one if the fairest community I have ever been a member of. Don't let no one tell you different you and the whole team are doing good, check it out most times it's the not so good musicians that nag alot, the ones who know why and what they are doing on here, realise almost immediately that music is universal and if it's good it will break boundaries.
I love you! <3
you are definitely getting way to many people giving you shit Shavon ! your way to nice. you need to tell that cocopter whatever the fuck his name is to fuck off.
that's because you're a feisty lioness! rarr no no its cool I got it sorted all at ease
Naaaaahhh she's an icon on steemit and has to lead by example ...
@soundlegion hi there? You're really going places and doing fine with open mic, when I realised you were one of the judges I knew it just had to be it.
A friend of mine got his music career kick-start on open mic, today he has enough to buy a guitar and well that's it
Yourself is an amazing vocalist with the sweet voice, we love you keep going
@soundlegion
We need to connect with our gratitude and avoid that frustration or, worse, the ego ... end up talking for us. I feel very happy for each week that passes. I dedicate myself, as long as I can, to listening to my classmates and, many times, I have been happy when I agree with a judge. Keep doing your work without looking to the sides ... the detractors will always be there to put obstacles.
However, I must say, speak very well of you as a person: that you take the time to speak to those who are clearly alienated by frustration or the need for attention.
From this corner of the universe: A huge hug for you and the team @luzcypher @passion-ground @Meno @Krystle @verbal-d (my favorite raper in steemit 😎)
True words so well spoken! Thank you for your work as a judge and you're kindness.
These were well received as I have been struggling to enter the openmic since the end of the songwriters challenge because I feel 'not good enough' and I'm trying to get over it.
@geenaizzy I am such a fan! There is this song of yours called "Skin" I love that song! it gets in my head some days and I start singing it. that is sucha great tune. Do you have a mp3 recording of that song btw? I would love to get that track in one of the steemit artists compilations. much love to you hun LOVE your work
"Run baby run, get out while you can, Run baby run, cause this is not who I am...... Cause you crawled under my skin, I made the mistake of letting you in.... i'm losing mind.... dont you worry... I'll clean up your mess, I'll clean up your mess, I'll clean up your mess when im done"
Oh my, you actually remember, ☺️ That is so sweet of you. I will try and do a recording without messing up, if I get to it.
Well said. I’ve participated in Open mic as a venue to share music that others may not have experienced before to a welcoming community. Any mentions or prizes that result are icing on the cake. Maybe my expectations are low...also, music is a passion but not my primary job either. I understand how people that work in music have higher expectations and may be looking for more. I enjoy listening to others perform and appreciate the judge’s opinions.
