Today, I get on the Hong Kong Tram, the earliest public transport of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Tramways is the oldest transport in Hong Kong, and also the landmark of Hong Kong. Every tourist of Hong Kong must have tried the journey of HK Tram. HK Tram is also the world’s only tram system using double-deck cars in the whole system. It is a precious gift of Hong Kong from History.

The plan of HK Tram started in 188 but the rich people mostly lived in the peak so no company were interested to invest until 1903. The first construction of HK tram system went from Kennedy Town to Causeway Bay which covered the active region of the British. The Kennedy Town was the most western region of the HK island but it was the most famous red-light district. So Kennedy Town was also covered for the rich to had fun.

HK Tram is also called “ding-ding” as the trams always got some “ding ding” sound.

The route of HK Tramways nowadays

Nowadays, HK Tramways has covered nearly all district of the HK island north. As it was constructed along the coast of HK island, it also showed the history of the land reclamation of HK island. The road of the HK tram was the earliest developed areas of HK, so now you may still find a lot of old buildings and contructions along the road.Old HK lover must love it! So, let’s start!

You may go to Lan Kwai Fong, the most famous clubbing area of Hong Kong, through this road.

Some people said HK Tramways should be eliminated due to its oldness and slowness. But actually, the HK tram is already part of the life of HK people. The cheap price attracts people which is not in a hurry. The slowness of tram gives us a time to relax, to calm down. Many couples also like to enjoy a romantic journey in the trams. Most importantly, HK tram is one of the “HK culture”. I wish I may still see trams going on the street of HK in the future.

OK! I got to my destination! See you!

IMG_8838
I saw this advertisement after I got off the tram. If you are interested in HK tram, you may book a TramOramic Tour! You may book the whole tram yourself, or make some new friends in the journey. In the 1.5 hour journey, we guys drink beers, enjoy the view of HK, knowing each other, how happy it is!

Hi @aaronli I've been in Hong-Kong last June for a vacation and tour for 6 days. By the way I'm from Philippines. I like your post and I'd like you to know that I missed Hong Kong very much. I hope I could get back there one day. And if ever I would like to take a ride with the tram train lol I missed riding that one on our visit. I wish I could hear more from Hong Kong in your post. Thank you.

You will have the chance to HK again!
