Partiko: Not Setting the Best Example?

in #piglet6 years ago (edited)

The Church of Piglet asks your attention for the following:

The Partiko people spam each and every introduceyourself posting with a comment praising their product.

According to the apparently somewhat confused Stellabelle, who heavily promotes this app, this is not spamming, because, and we quote:

[this is] not spamming because [the] app actually IMPROVES the Steemit experience. It takes away the feeling of a caste system and actually gives people a reason to log in each day (points system). I think it’s introducing people to [the] app in a neutral friendly way.

We understand this as: "if you feel your product is any good, it is OK to spread that message by replying to a great many people in an identical way, as long as it's friendly."

We feel, however, that this is spam, and also that it sets a very bad example for people who just started on Steemit.

And, let's face it, they get enough spam already.

In our opinion, even if Partiko were be the best invention since sliced bread, that still would be no excuse for spamming like this.

In a rare eructation of modesty, we ask: What do you think about this?

Note that we have no opinion on the quality of this app, and on the bright side: after some pressure, the Partiko people stopped offering money for 5-star reviews, so it's not all bad.

Thank you for your attention, and go in peace.

I wouldn't use the partiko app simply because of that link in every comment. I don't think it's necessary and it annoys me.

It may even be spam also.

It is

I have heard it said that it is hard to get exposure hence why they do that.

But I am tired of the, hard to get exposure so do as I please argument to justify things

You're not the only one.

There ain't that many left!

It's the same message over and over again. So, friendly or not friendly: to me this is Spam.

I've not used the app, but I get a lot of comments from people who do. Not sure the app needs a link in every comment. What if all the apps comment on every intro post? That could even put people off. They want human interaction. I stopped following Stella a while back as she just seems to push whatever product she's into. Is she still working for ONO?

I really have no idea. Her interests, loyalties, and opinions aren't very persistent.

Spamminator is flagging those who copy and paste the same message to many people. Why should this be different? Besides, it's advertising!

At least with the wallet spam we get paid. I hope Partiko votes up every post they comment on.

Does the app take a cut of rewards?

@steevc I did some digging and looks like steemcleaner allows this. it says: "Bots or Users posting information or welcoming new users in the tag #introduceyourself are comment spam that is not actionable by @ steemcleaners" Source: https://steemit.com/steemcleaners/@steemcleaners/abuse-guide-2017-update

We think that promoting an app goes beyond "posting information or welcoming new users".

I agree, but they don't :)

Everyone is free to set their own rules on what is actionable. It depends on whether they can do anything about it

Everyone is free
To set their own rules on what
Is actionable.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

I have no idea, have never used it and probably never will! I have my standards and refuse to use an app that adds a (self advertising) sentence to a comment each time no matter of the upvote.

Mixed feelings. I do think that Partiko is an excellent addition to Steem, because we sorely needed a user-friendly mobile Steem app that allows people to interface with Steem easily. Do I agree that commenting on every new users’ post is spamming? Yes. Do I believe it’s uncalled for? I’m not sure. In the world of Steem, it’s hard for an app like Partiko to be acknowledged without widespread commenting, mentions, etc. We all know visibility on Steem is difficult to come by, and I think Partiko is doing the best they can to place themselves at the top of the mobile Steem apps. Tough question, thanks for asking it.
