Staying motivated can be easy - Even if you really don't want to...

in #psychology8 years ago (edited)

These days, many of us work for ourselves or work from home and it's easy to be distracted (putting it politely) or to procrastinate when you are supposed to be working. There's the kids, taking the dogs for a walk, the tv, steemit and the list goes on...

So how do you stay motivated?

This is something that I struggled with until recently and I hope it helps you too.

Do you remember the days when you are motivated or even happy when you get out of bed in the morning? What do you do? Do you eat a certain breakfast? Go for a run? Write something facinating for others to learn from? What do you do? What's your routine?

I always notice when something is a bit off with my motivation when I don't make my bed in the morning. Weird, huh? I'd be feeling good when I wake up and I make my bed and when I don't have the energy, I don't feel like making my bed, so I don't.

For years I would wish for that motivational energy to come back to me so that I would make my bed in the morning... not years in a row, on and off for years ;)

And then I realised that I could trick myself into thinking that I was going to have a productive day because I made my bed! It's a bit like sports stars and their lucky socks/underwear/whatever. They know that if they have that routine, it would give them a head start on the game.

When I realised that I was waiting for the cart to go before the horse and waiting for me to wake up motivated rather than create my own motivation, I was astounded I had wasted so much time in my business and my life!

Now, just with one little tweak in my morning routine, I have made my bed and then I'm ready and energised to set some intentions for the day.

As I look at what I would like to achieve and complete during the day, I call on help. As an Intuitive Counsellor, I am in communication with my higher self and what ever other energies would like to assist me to achieve my targets. Those who don't concur with this opinion can see these energies as different aspects of the self. It is said that we only use approximately 10% of our brain, so maybe it is tapping into the other 90% to assist us through our day.

To set an intention, say,
"This (fill in the blank) is what I would like to achieve today and I would like your assistance. Will you please help me do this?" And then get started.

Because you're lacking in motivation at this point in time, even if you've done the equivalent of making your bed, you'll find that you'll be more prone to procrastination. Yet you'll also find that many of your intentions get done in ways that you may not expect.

Days where you are lacking in motivation, are freedom days.
They are days when you do things a little differently, a little less structured and you may even work odd hours, however, when you ask for help, you will eventually get things done in a way that you may never have imagined.

One last tip to help you through your day.
What if you asked yourself, without looking for an answer, "Who am I today and what joyous and amazing adventures will I be having?"
This question will allow you to be open to the energy that will create the motivation for you to do whatever you would like to do in your day.

There are so many possibilities waiting for you, so go and make your bed!

For me, my days don't go as I'd like if I don't shower within 15 minutes of waking up. If I put that off until later, it's usually because I'm feeling crappy and looking for something to ease that, and then the time disappears. I feel energized when I shower, so getting that done first sets me up for a great day.
