February 17, 2021--Courante from French Suite No. 5 in G major by J.S. Bach
The Courante is the second movement from the wonderfully Italianate French Suite No.5. It actually isn't so much a French Courante as it is is an Italian Corrente. The triple meter French Courante typically is a little slower and relies on shifting of the feel of the meter. The Corrente is a faster triple meter in which the downbeat is almost always obvious. It is as Italian as any dance could get--heart on the sleeve and enjoying life. However, this is Bach and the two part counterpoint through the work shifts melodic material back and forth between the two hands continuously. A lot of fun to play.
