Even though most of the people think that EOS is going to be the "Ethereum Killer", block.one's plans after EOS is done more looks like EOS is going to be the "Steem(it) Killer".
Sure, they have to develop their social network first and attract a lot of users, before the network effect kicks in. I think block.one's social network will not only compete with Steem, but also try to compete with Facebook.

The reason why Steem(it) should be afraid of this new competitor is, because most likely a social network on EOS will reward its contributers with some kind of cryptocurrency, something that was Steem's unique selling point so far.

exactly. i dunno why so many people (including ned) are being kinda naive. if eos can kill ethereum, steemit is over.

eos dawn is one of the biggest projects on github. compared to steem, competition on eos is on a different level. it's major league vs minor.

even though steemit is opensource too, nobody's rushing in to build the best version of steemit, while decentralized apps including social media are already running on eos testnet. it's not surprising because no developer would wanna build a dapp on a platform owned by ned.

podcasts, youtube, uber brought entire industries down. it's only the beginning because there'll be upgraded/decentralized versions of them on eos (or whatever new blockchain that will allow them to). the best thing is none of them would have to ask for ned's permission. or zuck's.

if steem/steemit continues to be centralized i'm afraid it stands no chance. i don't think even facebook can fight against decentralization and blockchains. even if they create their own it'll be a centralized system that mimics a few things. the more they fight it, the harder it'll be to control. blockone doesn't even have to fight anybody. they're simply providing a tool for any community to start fighting centralized systems.

meanwhile ned is trying to be facebook 😐

Yeah, I totally agree: even tough Steem is around quite a while and has quite a mass-appeal, it still didn't take off as much as it could have. Since social media platforms on EOS are able to do the same thing as Steem, just better, it will be a though competition for Steem.

The same is true for Facebook: with the recent scandal in mind, users are slowly learning that their data is very valuable and the "free" service provided by Facebook is only a small compensation for what they give away. I admit, that this is going to be a long process, but unlike past efforts to take down Facebook (like Diaspora: https://diasporafoundation.org/), social media dApps on EOS (or Ethereum, if well executed) have the potential to take down Facebook, by offering ownership of data and a compensation for sharing the data.

awesome stuff! no single company will bring down facebook. but an entire free market can. eos might as well empower a giant number of communities and individuals to join forces. it could be sooner than we think. maybe a few years until facebook becomes irrelevant as it clings to every bit of control.

SMTs are a possibility too.. (my wishful thinking) but it doesn't seem like they're ready to launch any time soon..

Exactly: it's very difficult for a single competitor to take on Facebook (not even Google+ managed to do so, and it had Google pushing it), but maybe a huge number of distributed, but interconnected, communities can.

amen brother. it's coming.
and not just facebook. even governments are going down.
maybe not the entire government but less control.

One step at a time, let's see what effect this will have on Facebook first :)

this is really interesting bro, thanks for sharing this let's hope the steen does not disappear

i hope so too. but remember dan is the real creator of steem/steemit. he can easily create another version on eos. that i'm very worried about.

excellent information although a little confusing friend, the platforms may cease to exist?

if dan makes a decentralized version of steemit on eos, people will move over in an instant. it's a possibility.

This is very great info...I want to know about more....Can you share this topic again..?

i was thinking about making a new video today but talking about crypto really isn't my thing.
but i might make another post when eos mainnet launches 😃
