Mysteries of hemp seed !!

For a long time, hemp seeds have been ignored, their nutritional richness and beneficent properties neglected, because of the botanical relationship between hemp and cannabis.

Hemp seeds come from the plant known as the "marijuana plant". However, the seeds for consumption are not concentrated in THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and are not psycho-active edible substances.

Hemp seed has been used for hundreds of years as both food and medicine in Chinese culture. This seed has been the subject of much research in recent years and is proving to be a food with many virtues for our health.

Moreover, their virtues are numerous. Their insoluble dietary fiber content makes them easy to digest.

Hemp seeds Danger? !!

Many people are prematurely frightened by the idea of consuming hemp seeds because they come from hemp plants, of the same species as Cannabis sativa.

You have heard the many benefits of hemp seeds for human health, but you are not sure if you want to add them to your diet for fear of consuming THC, and also because of possible road tests for narcotic consumption.
Well, no worries, although it looks like marijuana, hemp is actually a different variety of cannabis sativa and contains very little of the active ingredient, THC - or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.
Moreover, far from being dangerous, hemp seeds, rich in healthy fats, proteins and essential nutrients, offer many health benefits and enrich the diet.

WHY ARE HEMP SEED GOOD FOR HEALTH?

Hemp is a variety belonging to the cannabis family, it has been used for a very long time, and still is, primarily for the fibers of its stems.
Hemp used in industrial applications, in fact has fibers considered as the longest and most durable of all natural fibers.
The high fiber content of hemp has long been used to make fabrics and papers, canvases of the same type as linen, tea bags, infusions and even paper money.
Unfortunately, in the West, since the 1950s, hemp is classified as narcotic as marijuana because it contains a small amount of naturally occurring tetrahydrocannabinoids (THC); for this, its use is therefore marginalized, wrongly to a large extent.
Hemp, however, is now also grown without herbicides and unwanted pesticides, since scientists have discovered the high nutritional value of its seeds.

VERY NUTRITIVE SEED

Hemp seeds contain 30% fat, about 25% protein and a considerable amount of fiber, vitamins and minerals.

The oil of these seeds is composed of 80% of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are particularly beneficial for our health because they allow among other things to maintain our cognitive capacities, a good vision or to have good immune defenses.

Hemp seed is particularly rich in two essential fatty acids (not manufactured by our body): linoleic acid (omega 6) and alpha linolenic acid (omega 3). These two essential fatty acids are present at an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 2: 1 to 3: 1, which is considered optimal for human health.

GOOD SOURCE OF VEGETABLE PROTEIN

Sources of "complete proteins", that is to say containing all the essential amino acids (not produced by the body) are very rare in plants.

Hemp seed is one of those sources of complete vegetable protein. Indeed, it contains about 25% of proteins including all the essential amino acids. In addition, the proteins contained in hemp seed are much more digestible than most proteins of seeds, nuts or vegetables thus allowing better absorption of amino acids.

POSSESS CARDIOPROTECTIVE CAPACITY

Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the world. According to various studies, hemp seed could limit the risk of heart disease by different mechanisms.

One of these mechanisms is linked to arginine, an amino acid present in very large quantities in hemp seed. Arginine allows, among other things, the production of nitric oxide, a gas that allows the dilation of the blood vessels and thus the reduction of the arterial pressure. A large study of more than 13,000 people has shown that an increase in arginine consumption allows the reduction of CRP (C-reactive protein) which is a marker of inflammation related to heart disease.

EXCELLENT REMEDY AGAINST SKIN PROBLEMS

Dryness and itching of the skin are common drawbacks in atopic skin. These inconveniences are often a source of complications such as opportunistic infections. A Finnish study has shown that giving hemp seed oil to people with eczema helps reduce skin problems.

After regular consumption of hemp seed oil, the skin of the patients was much less dry and less itchy. Studies have yet to be conducted to determine the mechanisms of action of hemp seed oil in order to propose the oil of this seed as a potential treatment for atopic skin.

PROMOTES DIGESTION

Fiber is an important part of the diet because it allows good digestion.

Hemp seed is an excellent source of both soluble (20%) and insoluble (80%) fiber:

Soluble fiber is transformed into a kind of gel in the stomach and is used as nutrients by our intestinal flora (bacteria naturally present in our intestines) thus keeping a healthy microbiota. Soluble fiber would also reduce peaks in blood sugars and reduce cholesterol levels by slowing their absorption.
Insoluble fiber allows for better intestinal transit and may also reduce the risk of diabetes.

DO NOT HESITATE TO TAKE HEMP SEEDS

Although hemp seeds have not been popular so far, they are an ancestral staple and people now realize their excellent nutritional value.

They are very rich in healthy fats, good quality protein and many minerals.

However, hemp seeds may contain traces of THC (<0.3%), the active compound of marijuana. People who have been addicted to cannabis may want to avoid consuming hemp or hemp seeds in any form.

Overall, hemp seeds are incredibly healthy. They are probably one of the superfoods truly worthy of his reputation.

HOW TO USE THEM IN KITCHEN?

Whole seeds, crunchy, nibble as an aperitif or slip into salads, bread dough, cookies, mueslis, fried vegetables, they can also roast slightly to make them more digestible and more tasty, but we do not heat not shelled seeds, under penalty of destroying their omega-3. Another idea: prepare a "milk" of hemp. Mix 100 g of shelled seeds with 90 cl of water. Bring to a boil, filter by squeezing well through a sieve. Let cool and use at breakfast, in dessert cream ...
