Steem Monsters Cartography Competition Submission
So, because my time got totally hijacked this week; I didn't get to really do what I wanted to do for the contest. But I figure I'll still submit what I've done.
This is my doodle sketch. I love to doodle!
Some tracing. I don't own a wacom tab anymore or a decent stylus. :( I wish I did. So pencil and mouse it is.
This is not a vector. Sorry. I wouldn't mind tracing it if I had the tools. My mind and my tools never match.
Here I colored it. Basic coloring just to get an idea of what is what and where is what.
@reseller is who mentioned it would be cool if the map had layers (i.e. the Life was in the clouds, and Death below.) How I visualize it in my mind these "islands" are slanted somewhat, and spin around the center island, which also spins. This also makes sense because then various weather can happen. For example, when water falls on lava it makes Steam, which makes clouds, which makes rain, and fills the water world, which drains into earth and so on.
I didn't get into enough detail to add castles, features, etc. One monster would literally be a dot on this map.
What I thought would be cool is if I modeled the whole thing in 3d. Then how the weather and rotation worked would make sense. The physics and math would make sense. Also, we'd be able to render a TOP view for game play and an accurate view of various angles for art, as well as "break, split, collide, etc."
This is an unfinished model of the middle island.
If selected as the winner, all I can do right now is offer the files for inspiration for an equipped illustrator to trace and redo. If this needs editing, I'd need a wacom tab or similar type of thing to break it all apart in 2d and rebuild it.
Maybe if this gets a big enough upvote I can buy one? I'm going to bot-boost this so I'll have too afterward. :)
Please let @aggroed & @yabapmatt know if 3d world is of interest. If so, I think we could put it on Utopian. I use Blender and Unity, (still learning Python — my 9 year old is better at game dev than me ha-ha.)
Visit @steemmonsters if you don't have your cards yet.
> MY CONTEST ENTRY <
Wish me luck!!!
Hi Dear @omitaylor, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Eve and I wanted to let you know that when I saw your post for the contest and you being a girl motivated me to enter the contest at the last minute.
Thank You!
Hello! I commented on your submission! Very polished! It looks so much like the original illustrators work.
Just wow. I see you have some awesome tools at your disposal as well and that you're considering design or development @berniesecretary — I congratulate you on your decision.
I know that you are going to win, am very sure of it, your presentation is flawless and is all over the internet.
Give me a few minutes to power up and I will upvote you!
Thank You for being a nice person.
Eve
I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch. Ha-ha. My submission is basically scribble. But i'd hoped to really get the "ideas" out there and that's all that matters. My young son helped with ideas so he was just thrilled to submit it no matter what happens. Being an autism family we don't get much inclusion into a broader landscape. So whenever we can do something like this, he is just bursting with joy.
I'm glad you have found a calling and passion in this respect as well. That is so valuable. When I was your age, I was hanging at the mall. There was no real internet yet. 😀 I believe our generations have much to share with each other. I have an older son who is just 23, around your age. He's very ambitious and envisioned as well. I love it! Whatever I can do to encourage. When I was your age, my parents couldn't because times were different. I love how the internet bridges people and ages and experiences. It's so wonderful to meet new talented and intelligent people. Thank you for reaching out to me!♥️🌈
Hey Omi, this is fantastic: I admire your creativity, compliments!
I wish you to win: you deserve it!
A big hug from @amico!
P.s.: Remove an "and" from "and and" ;)
Thanks @amico! I owe you an upvote when I recharge <3 I appreciate you checking my posts so I make less of an ass out of myself HAHA. I hope I win too ♥️
You're too kind, Omi! ♥️
Wow. Pretty nice.
How does everyone know how to do a bunch of this stuff on their computer. Need...to...up...my...game... :D
Why do we fall..?
So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.
That's very true!!!! Thank you @cryptoindex! 😆
yo teach me how to do this monster thing lol
I got you. ♥️ First you need to make a confused video about how you was sleeping on steem monsters. JK. Nah you just buy a starter deck. And you get boosters if you want to level up. The discord has more going on like trading, buy/sell, etc. Think of them like coins. Some are already going for $60usd. Kitties with attitudes? It's like D&D a lot. You play with your imagination some. If you don't want to play, just Hodl lol
ahhh ok ima check out the discord
Your balance is below $0.25. This is your first notification that your account is running low and should be replenished.
Wow this is great. I love the idea of the spinning islands that create weather.
Thank you so much! I'm crossing my fingers!
I had a similar idea of a floating island, even as far as the water flowing off the edge. But yours takes that to the next level. It's no contest!
Great minds think similarly is what I hear. I went with separate continents/islands, because I wanted something I could use physics in the 3d model to make things happen (like an earthquake from the continents slamming together.)
I love how yours has such warmth though. I don't have the tools right now to give my ideas life. So damn sad. If I end up selected, perhaps they will let me take on a broader part in helping bring community ideas to life. I was actually more attracted to that inference. I see more than just a card game. I think because of blockchain monetization, it could actually become an economized mmorpg... like secondlife, which card-elements, instead of the other way around lol.
I really find the 3D is extra cool honestly!
Design is also creativity right?
Thank you sweet @karinxxl I miss being around and will check out your recent posts too. Have a root canal this week and my kids are getting out for summer soon so time is crunched a bit more.
Yes, I think design is creative. But also a bridge between creative and logic. I love the divergent aspects.
I don't even wanna know about how skilled your 9 year old is lol I feel bad enough as it is haha
This is awesome work though! I hope you win!
I hope I win too because folks got 1000 cards, I have like a deck and a half LOL! Why do you feel bad? You're super talented.
Ha! Maybe when I was 13, back then I passed the learnkey A+ certification tests with ease, now about the only thing I remember from that is the IRQ of a floppy drive lol (which is 6 btw)
Well with the whaleshares discords, how you balance helping to mod, all the support you give others, figuring out how to mine, and all that- I can't even balance. I'm impressed with your technical and intuitive capacity. Strange how we all like what others are good at and they like what we're good at :) ♥️
Well, I appreciate you noticing :) Thanks!
Sexy work @omitaylor. I want to learn how you did this! Seems exciting and artistic. I hope you get buy your favorite booster packs. Haha! I will soon buy some of mine and try to understand the game a little better. Cheers :-)
Thank you @hungryhustle. Sort of where the left brain meets the right brain. Ha. Depending on the outcome of the contest, if I do more design, I will definitely flesh it out so you can follow along.
As for the game itself, I think it was originally planned to be a game with RPG elements; and not it seems its evolving into a full blown MMORPG game. Which I anticipate anyway. So I think the gaming aspect will probably deal with the way tournaments and battles work, but the rest is very storylike. Best to follow as it unfolds. Literally takes me 5 minutes to scroll for any important updates. Backstory is key to how to play. For instance, if it was Pokemon, you can't just make Pikachu a flying octopus. So things build from a core outward. The more we learn becomes official cannon the more we come up with backstory, side story, etc. Good exercise of creativity.
On the tech end, there is plenty space to plug in too. For instance, your info-graphics. RPG games tend to have LOTS of stats, flows of development, ranks, and things to chart and communicate visually.
Cool entry. It looks like you thought of everything :0)
If only I was as creative...
My family loves this stuff hahaha
