A prototype app will be released in the near future.

I am excited for a highly talented designer joining the project, so the app will look a lot better in due time.

Exactly I've been saying this IS the game changer for Steemit.. WHY post on Youtube when you can get paid to post here and not censored.. I'm tired of uploading to Youtube just to link here!! This is worth Powering Up all my other cryptocurrencies now!

In the short term, and for major YouTube names, the revenue generated from ad content is going to be difficult to replace. Some of these guys are making 6 and 7 figure revenue numbers from their channels.

I think where this is likely to get traction is with new people starting out and/or some of these guys cross-posting.

I'm a huge fan of this. I've been saying since day 1 that this is what will take Steem to the next level. It's the only thing IMO. Blogging is cool, but it's tired. Reddit is cool, but it's niche. You need something that appeals to the masses and YouTube is just that.

Further, Steemit has a disadvantage to Reddit in that, with Reddit people don't have to take the time to write a thoughtful "Steem". They can just curate links to various pieces of content. Also, with Reddit you can follow topics and not just people. (I've mentioned this before, following people is stupid. It's the reason why Twitter sucks).

So yea. SteemTube up up and away!

I make $12 per month on YouTube. The only people who really make bank are less than .00001% of YouTube creators. The rest of us make peanuts.

Yes, exactly. And they make the majority of the money b/c they get the majority of the views on their content. My point is not to discourage this b/c I feel it's THE right move/answer.

I'm simply stating that the majority of YouTube's premiere content and viewership isn't likely to jump ship quick. It takes more people like you, making $12 over time, where some become very popular before it takes hold.

But, I think it's inevitable and needs to be done.

Exactly my sentiment. We don't really need big time famous people using Steemit to propel ourselves. They will likely see this weird website as just another income stream with no regards to the community or the culture.

Why not reward those who have been here since day 1 and has been making content day and night? Those that believes in Steemit before it was mainstream, before it "makes big money".

What I mean is that, IF, they do come, let them come. But we ourselves have already all the talents we need to make steemit a legit place. Afterall, steemit is about everyone. Everyone can make money, not just big time famous stars.

You are spot on my man. For those of us here we knew this was going to be a future platform with value that will be an opportunity to get in on the ground level and become those guys and gals bringing in a livable income or a nice little bonus. Support early adopters whenever possible because we made this platform and it shall be to our benefit.

Lets support each other and build up ourselves!

Great posts and blog you have by the way, followed and cant wait for your future posts!

Lets hope they ALL JUMP SHIP!

Lets kill this dinosaur media and bring on the alternative media. I listen to all alternative media on youtube. USA Watchdog, SGT Report, Lisa Haven etc. and lean so much more from these folks. Thanks for all of those who chose to provide us with alternative media. Thumbs UP!!

never gotten a view above 10 on You lessTube!!!

I make way more on affiliate commissions from YouTube than I do from the Adsense. Adsense is a minimal income stream for me on there but I feel it is important.

of course -- I always knew this is so, and therefore am still laughing at attempts to "calculate" the income of some Casey Neistat merely be figuring out the value of their AdSense clicks. In light of those being in the $100,000s just imagine what these people really are making (from those little Amazon or GoPro or Manfrotto affiliate links they also use)...

Not that this is all tht important, maybe rather off-topic here.

Just saying though...

Youtube is going to miss you @stellabelle Bleep_visual_censor.gif
and many other steemers. Youtube is history.

Even PewDiePie, the biggest YouTuber of all with close to 55 million subscribers only got $32 and $38 in ad revenue on his last two videos according to a video he uploaded today, titled SHE WANTS MY YOUTUBE MONEY! Pure gaming channels (which PewDiePie is not) seem to be still going strong, some even seeing more ad revenue than before the adpocalypse. So it really depends on the content people create and if they create the wrong content, with *gasp* edgy humor, the most dangerous of weapons ever created by man apparently, even millions of subscribers means you don't get anything and have to make money through donations or promo deals.

But I completely agree with your other points :)

Absolutely! And that's a good point to bring up. This reminds me of my first startup, macmod.com, a community site for people that modified their macintosh computers. It was very popular. We had multiple links on apple.com, even on their Mac Mini product pages.

Alas, nerds don't click ads, they don't buy products with markup, and they're an absolutely horrible target market with respect to general marketing and revenue channels.

So, I certainly agree with you there. If I'm an advertiser, I'm unlikely to want my ads showing next to PewDiePie, unless maybe I'm selling a Squatty Potty.

I can second that claim, we should strive to be something different and real rather than get washed away in a few years :) a vibrant co-working community would be the best bet :)

Read my post. I am going to follow you because a I think those of us with the tingle are going to want to work together to make ourselves successful on STEEMIT. We will persist!

I like what you are saying @jacobt except for "with Reddit people don't have to take the time to write a thoughtful "Steem". If you see my recent posts, you will see that they were pretty simple, and they still received a fair amount. And I think we should be able to follow people as well as topics, that way you have the best of both.

fulll steem ahead!

Maybe we move more in that direction. But, at least initially and possibly as part of the culture, the trend is headed the other direction. I feel this limits a lot of content from being shared. Steemit needs to realize that the majority of the content creation is going to happen outside these walls. Being able to bring that in, without the need to write a long "steem" is important IMO.

I think you have a point

I think whats most important is to take the control and power away from Google, Facebook, YouTube, and all these other monopolies and put the power of the internet back in the hands of the people. All the meanwhile undermining the world banking systems by giving cryptocurrencies buying power. Time to put the people back in charge.

Totally agree with you Sir.

Yep I totally agree! I'm getting sick of the new updates on youtube android which is invasive.

with their recent attempts at censorship good riddance.

I can't wait for youtube to die. I am going to start getting active on steemit.

Yes! Bye bye CENSORED YouTube! The truth will still get out there for the people!

RIGHT! youtube KILLER!!!

This would be off the hook if so

it's about time humanity frees itself from that Google-run monster -- and a video-capable Steemit will help doing just that.

I am waiting for some time for a blockchain-based and censorship-resistant search engine to come up somewhere in this ecosystem here, so we will also be able to free ourselves from that evil miscreant.

Called it! Look at my previous posts. So happy for us STEEMIANS!!!

Yes. I have stopped uploading vids there. Cant wait for this.

I have been waiting for this news for a while.

Where will the videos be stored?

Probably a storage blockchain like Storj or Sia, or even possibly Maidsafe.

My post yesterday had 200+likes and only made .83cents

Steemit is a plutocracy. Rule by the wealthy. Look it up. Those with steem power determine what is 'worthy' content. This is the only aspect of steemit that I don't think is fair.

Yes 48hrs into steem i started to noticed

check steemd also some bots vote at 1% https://steemd.com/@deez

A big fish must have liked your content. Their opinions are worth more.

Yep, that's the central question, the only viable option now is probably IPFS (please correct me if I'm wrong), Sia is not ready (no public URLs for files you add to your wallet), Storj is centralized and just switching to ETH (e.g. not really stable), MAID is also still alpha, no storage layer yet afik, and also Ethereum Swarm is not ready yet...

I for one don't care how it looks, as long as it works!

Thats what she said ? lol

So Steemit.com will replace facebook, twitter, reddit; Steemqa will replace Youtube; Steepshot will replace Instagram. Looks like all of social media will be replaced soon!!

Through their censorship and political activities, they are sowing the seeds of their own demise. I won't shed a tear.

ya?....it wil replace....in 67 years. :)
Well, maybe sooner..... but dont expect this to happen in a decade

Youtube is what, 12 years old and Facebook is 14 years old. Decade is a plenty of time given that this is a community effort instead of corporate one. And day by day the issues of censhorship is growing. Perfect storm is brewing.

I expect it'll happen much sooner than that if it happens at all.

As long as the steemit stays as it is, with a clean, simple and no advertising interface okay! 😉

yes please.
no distractions from watching the material

Yup I have to agree there, I'm used to seeing normal pages and it's a bit shameful that most sites have to put up with shitty adds to support their revenue.

it has the opposite result of what they intended.

Not really just stimulating the making of adblockers :D to help us clean the net of trashy commercials, why can't we ditch the marketing methods so deeply rooted in TV, stay a sleep and buy shit :| we will feed you good ideas every 20 minutes :) Strange world it is, how about the SteemQ do you like the idea, will you vlog :D

Just tired of other entities having the power to censor whatever they think is dangerous, fake, or puts them in the spotlight

I hate that too. Facebook is getting very bad about that. I tried to post something related to bitcoin and the facebook algorithm denied my link as unsafe. I know for a fact the content was safe.

WOW! amazing!
i was sure u will be the guy who makes it :)

Awesome work @furion, thanks for building this! Youtube's days are numbered :)

Please, make it webm!

I will, but not in the first version. VP9 encoding and webm container format are pretty cool, however there is no general cross-platform native support yet, so for now it makes sense to keep things simple, and stick to H264.

If steemit.chat can handle it, I'm sure it wont take too long in this project :p

I would like to stick to a single format, to keep storage costs low. Thus, it makes sense to use formats that are natively supported by all devices OOTB. We are close though, very close.

For most video creators they're used to making videos with H.264. It's best to match what YouTubers are good at doing right now than improving and offering way more solutions in the future!

Well well well look at that.

I'm buying steem right now! This is also incredible because I can then upload guitar vids straight to steemit instead of going through youtube. Wicked as! :D

Thks for the info @furion. great to see how the project is moving. Please let us know if u need any support for this project. Upvoted!
