Team Australia New Recruits 13/03/19: Things are still ticking alongsteemCreated with Sketch.

Hey Aussies. I hope you've enjoyed your summer, even though it's probably still going, cos you know, climate change. (I recommend watching Merchants of Doubt if you're still a denier, then see how you feel.) If you live in the northern hemisphere, well, sucks to be you with all that cold and snow and sleet etc. Unless you like that of course.

Feature photo

This photo was taken by me when I was back in Brisbane in January. I was a lazy shit and basically did no exercise the whole time I was there, but I did go for a walk around Kangaroo Point a few times. It was nice. I didn't have to constantly worry about being run over, like I do in Panama.

Meet-ups

On the 3rd of March there was a BBQ in Adelaide. In true Adelaide style, attendance was in the double digits including some random chick showing up requiring Matt's fancy bottle opening skills.

No photos or posts.

The next Adelaide meet-up will be 28/03/19 at the Jade from 6pm.

Candidate 1

Name and bio

@allyinspirit is an artist. She has a Diploma of Art and Design majoring in painting, but she is equally devoted to drawing with pastel, charcoal and pencil. She works from her private home studio in Sydney.

Intro post here.

Fun fact

"I'm lucky that I've always, if not fully believed in magic, at least wanted to find out how to. So making a Magical Wand has given me a tool that can help me to focus and relax ~ And then I can ask to bring more magic, more insight, more abundance, more harmony, more adventure, more of anything I want to bring into my life."

I know a guy in England who left his family to make wands and live on a boat. His now ex-wife was not impressed.

Candidate 2

Name and bio

@svemirac (which means spaceman in Serbian) is an Astrophysics PhD student who just moved to Sydney to continue his studies. He's also a @curie curator and steem witness (crowdwitness).

Intro post here.

Fun fact

"I trained aikido for over 10yrs in Serbia and have a black belt 2nd DAN still trying to find a club in Penrith (but I guess I need a car first)."

Nice. Although I have no idea what a "2nd DAN" is.

Congratulations guys, you're now part of Team Australia.

The rules for joining Team Australia

If you’re not yet a member and want to be, this is what you need to do:

  1. Vote here for our resident steemit witness and our Minister for Welfare @ausbitbank.
  2. Send me your introduction post so I can find out a bit about you. If you’re new to steemit you'll have to write one so use the introduceyourself and teamaustralia tags to help boost your following. Use this guide if you don't know what to write.
  3. If it’s not mentioned in your introductory post, tell me which city and country you’re in, cos let's face it, a lot of us live in Australia's fourth largest city—London. You need to have a connection to Australia to join.
  4. Tell me a fun fact about yourself. This can be anything. For example, maybe you have eight kids and three dogs, or you rode your bike across America, or you won the blue ribbon for javelin throwing at sports day back in high school, or Toadie came into the pub you work at one day and you served him a beer, or, maybe you can fit 55 maltesers in your mouth like Ed Sheeran can. It doesn’t matter what it is, I want a fun fact about you! The more fun, the better.
  5. Regularly check the Team Australia and Australia tags and upvote/follow the content you like. You can show your support by following the centerlink curation trail in steemauto. Instructions are here.
  6. Comment below or DM me in PAL-Discord that you want to join.

Once I receive this information I will try my best to write a good introductory paragraph about you for the official Team Australia membership updates. So the better your information is, the better I can make you sound. Where relevant, please use the teamaustralia and australia tags to promote your work.

@allyinspirit and @svemirac !!!

awesome steemians both \o/

And yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay it has been such a long time to see a choogirl post~~~

....also that story with the champagne girl at the adelaide meet up is hilarious :D

loves this post <3 <3 <3

Lol. It is a good story. Yeah I know. My posts make fuck all money now so I don't really see the point in posting. The effort to reward ratio isn't worth it anymore.

Welcome @allyinspirit!

I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone that @svemirac is a total dude. He's hilarious as hell, totally didn't mind a couple of us ribbing him about his new home Penrith on the CrowdWitness server, and seems nice and smart and fun.

@choogirl, in martial arts, they made all the coloured belts to show progression, with black belt being the highest... but then some of the black belts got way better than the others, so they added the black black belt, the black black belt belt, the black black black black belt and the blackest of belts, etc. Then a guy called Daniel McKickerson got his black belt and said something like "Sheesh, I'm going to need to be twice as good to get my black black belt." and apparently that's why they call it 2nd Dan, 3rd Dan, etc. So if Daniel is black belt and @svemirac is worth two Daniels, then he's 2nd Dan in Aikido. Hope that clears that up.

Didn't mind? I was scared as hell - I still feel worried and can't sleep at night :D

Hahahaha, what a great explanation of ranking system. :)
Basically thats it, but in aikido is a bit different - some sort of non-competitive martial arts is achieved with having only black and white belts (which are graded both grades of white, and belts), but gives no envy or some other jealousy things on the mats.
Usually takes you at least 5 yrs to get from white to black belt - and this is when most of the people give up on aikido - but the actual fun starts here - as of this point you actually understand something but still have no idea about the whole thing. :)
So there are grades of black belt (in Aikido currently 9th DAN is highest - and founder's grandson is not graded - ofc :) ). in order to get from 1st to 4th dan you need to train at least 10 more years (as you need to wait some time between two exams 2 yrs, for 2nd DAN, 3yrs between 2nd and 3rd... 4ys, between 3rd and 4th).... And then the fun starts :) after 4th DAN there are no more examinations - but these are rewarded on merit - and what you actually gave back to Aikido.

Of course, all these grades are granted by Daniel :) sorry for a bit of a boring explanation :)

Lol. Thank you Ninja-San for the most detailed explanation ever. I understand "the Dans" now.

If my name is Danielle does that make me a one Dan? 🤔😉🙃😁

Welcome to team Australia @allyinspirit and @svemirac

Yay. TA is aliiive! Welcome new members and good job again @choogirl

It's never really died. More hibernating during the crypto winter.

Welcome on board @allyinspirit and @svemirac. And we’ve just poached a new witness in Australia 😄

Well we've lost a few in the crypto winter, so it's good to gain one.

Happy to be here 😄 enjoying some HOT AUTUMN, apparently :)

Whoohoo! I know them both... nice and friendly folks :).
Welcome to team Australia, the best team in Steemit ^_^.

Indeed, they are good steemians. I've been loving Ally's work for ages.

I’ve always thought that she has joined already. It was really quite a surprise when I read her intro post to the team a few days ago xD.

It was the fun fact. She could never think of anything.

Welcome @allyinspirit !!
And woo @svemirac! You're official now!! :D :D :D Hope Penrith is treating you well and my Houso's warnings didn't scare you too much. xD

It feels like it's been a long time coming.

Welcome @allyinspirit and @svemirac. A nice boost to the Sydney team. We look forward to see seeing your posts in the @teamaustralia feed!
