Microsoft is developing military weaponry technology

Employees are protesting against their technology being implemented into combat weapons.

Microsoft Workers 4 Good

The augmented reality revolution has reached a point where it can be used in direct combat. Microsoft's relationship with the Department of Defense has become infamous within their own company, as over one hundred employees have signed an open letter asking Microsoft to give up developing tech to cause harm and violence.

In response, Microsoft stated that anyone who is not okay with how their work is being used can simply drop it and move to a different project. That would be meaningless, resulting in another employee taking up from where it was.

The workers' greatest concern is the future of their research, because they won't get to say anything if Microsoft later decides to implement their achievements into anything they believe to be unethical.

Naming themselves "Microsoft Workers 4 Good", they are hopeful in not being forced to walk the same path as the scientist who became horrified when they found out her research eventually led to the first nuclear bomb.

The technology does not belong to them, for contractual reasons. Theirs is a noble, but lost cause, unfortunately. That said, there's virtually no technology that CANNOT be used to cause harm or at least improve combat effectiveness. The future of war involves more and more unmanned vehicles and automation. Let us hope for the best that technology will drive war to such a point where human losses are minimized.
