A rolling powerdown is where I either power back up what becomes available every week, or move it elsewhere depending on how I feel about Steemit. I also invested in other crypto currencies like BTC, that money could have been invested in Steem, but it wasn't, ..and at this rate it won't be.

Which ones of them are already active?
Or is waiting for them to become active a miss of an opportunity similar to premining?

Mithril is unique in that it also tries to involve a group of merchants that will accept their token rather than dealing with an exchange: https://mith.io/
I have not found a centralized place to find these, I find these by reading a lot of Steemit posts, and if one sounds interesting I check it out. There is no way of knowing how they will do in the future, even Steemit has not surpassed 1 Million users yet, so it's a little early to make comparisons with the newcomers, some will last, but I expect most will not.
I checked it about a month ago, and could not find how to register there.
It seemed like an advertisement only page, a promo.
Is registration free there? Should I have ETC or EOS to get in there?

No need to be an IT specialist or hacker for it, just check your browser's task manager.
For perhaps less video oriented social networking, I know about 2 users here whom are on gab.ai.
