A Walking Meditation
We spent the best part of our morning hiking up Mt Cootha.
We did a Gatha walking meditation in silence going up the mountain to put us in a state of mindfulness and awareness. Going up the mountain with each breath we say, 'as I walk (breathing in) the mind will wander (breathing out), with each sound (in)...the mind returns (out) with each breath....the heart is open, with each step...I touch Earth (out)...from Thich Nhat Hanh. Opens the senses, returns the mind to the present moment, and shifts your attention to the heart, whilst grounding your body to Earth. Really can't ask for a better way start the day. We giggled and talked high school things all the way down.
And yes....kids can learn this! Its crucial for their wellbeing.
