BakOlsen hill, Tromsø

in #walkwithme6 years ago (edited)

Here is the view from the top of the hill "Bak-Olsen" (literally, "behind Olsen", perhaps there has been someone with the name Olsen living in the area ... I've been searching the Internet a bit, but didn't manage to find anything) - at 12:29 and 14:21 two days ago. There is a bench right nearby where one can sit and enjoy the view or eat lunch. The hill is situated on the south-west of the Tromsø island, a bit on the "backside", so the view in front is towards the neighbour islands Håkøya and Kvaløya.

The hill is very popular both for downhill skiing, ski jumping and tobogganing. Not much visible from this angle, but on the south/left side there is a small ski tow, apparently not operating throughout the holidays. (I've never ever used it - I prefer to use the hill when it's not in use). The top of the main hill is very steep, but it's possible to get to the bottom of the hill by following the skiing track around the hill - and it's lots of opportunities, it's always possible to find some relatively safe place for tobogganing.

This day was without much wind, all air traffic coming from the south or going to the south was passing by.

On the north/right side of the hill (not directly visible from the top viewpoint) there is a Gapahuk/Laavu where one can do some grilling even in bad weather. The construction is open for the public (but bring your own firewood).

Seems like there is a small engine-driven boat on the fjord with two persons fishing from it. I also observed a kayak.
