RE: STEEMINT Brief 001 - WhaleShares

Yeah, there's no quality control in Steemit, other than many people wanting the platform to work and hopefully upvoting good quality. This doesn't always happen as we chase after curation rewards. I think the token will just give more ways/reasons to vote for (possibly) bad content.

A test. I can appreciate that, but I still worry what it will do for Steemit. I know we're beta, but I do worry if it's a good idea to do this test, because we are open to the public and the public might get a bad impression or lots of frustration from this (not to mention it adds yet another difficulty layer).

Well, nothing I can do about this anyway but to wait and see what happens...

Well fyrst already has been recorded saying he plans to attack and misuse the system so pay attention to him if u are worried.

;)

Aah, well I guess that'll be interesting!

You raise all my concerns as well @playfulfoodie
I do believe that the long term success of steemit hinges on the best content to float to the top, and established curation trails can be a misaligned incentive

The whaleshares program is unlikely to help in this respect, but with delegated votes in place, it's only a matter of time before a market surrounding voting power will form outside of the currency itself (which I think could be very problematic, and wonder if the advantages of having delegated votes will outweigh its costs). So even if whaleshares doesn't take off, something else similar most likely would given the current blockchain rules.

That's a good point you raise about the delegated votes. I actually never paid it a lot of attention, because I had no idea how it would be used. I think you're right about it raising the same concerns.

I really do wonder what Steemit will look like, a year from now. Or when the masses come. It'll be interesting, but I'm not sure if it'll be better. Not for the regular people I mean.
