Work or Slavery?

Do you work to live or do you live to work?

The rat race is no life. I mean I certainly agree that people do need to spend their time in a productive way and try to make the most of it. Nobody likes sitting around doing nothing. Even if you do feel exhausted by your everyday routine or job, trust me; you wouldn't enjoy having absolutely nothing to do after a short period of time.

So it is not about laziness. Nobody can bare living without a purpose no matter the financial situation one could be in. It's not about the money. Even if you did have all the money in the world, you would still need to entertain and amuse yourself, you would still need to escape boredom and stay active, you would still need the sort of external stimuli that drives you. You would still need to live and experience joy.

It's still much better than living in the rat race though, I certainly agree with that. The point I'm trying to make is that life is about way more than just a plain job. You weren't born to just work and work in order to generate a currency. I mean you do have biological needs, but you certainly have so many artificial needs as well. Those ideas were planted in your head. This is not you. You don't need that supercar.

You don't actually need that luxurious house you've been dreaming of. Luxuries are fine, don't get me wrong; all I'm saying is they are not needs. Are you sure you have to spend 1000$ on your cellphone in order to achieve true happiness? Are you sure you need thousands of dollars in order to enjoy precious moments in nature we call vacations? Think again.

The system is what it is, like it or not. Most people won't be fortunate enough to live blissful lives without a care in the world regarding finances. It is what it is. What you can do about it though is to control the way you react to this. You can set your own priorities and realize you don't actually need all that money you thought you needed in order to be truly happy. Happiness has nothing to do with material wealth or fame. Go ask all those celebrities who unfortunately took their own lives. I lost my favourite singer of all time to suicide and he was very rich, super famous and extremely successful.

This means that it's not about success. Life is not about scoring more and gathering more. This is not a video game. Life should not be a competition. Stope being a part of this and it shall vanish. It is rather unfortunate that so many people pursue fame and wealth in order to feel successful. Success is all about connecting with others. It is all about impact. Positive impact.

So, if your job is killing you, get out of it. If you're life is hard, change it. You don't have to torture yourself like this. The moment you start needing less, you start being actually free. Think about it.

Yours truly,

@noobster
