RE: To anyone who tells you to “Grow up”...
I gave up on art in the 5th grade. It was a tiny school, and we had no special art teacher. Just our regular teacher. One day he handed us paper and colored chalk and told us to draw what we saw out the window. I did my best to draw the trees and the mountains. I got a "C" on my drawing. He told me I should have shaded the colors. But he had never taught us about shading colors, so I knew nothing about it. That was the day I gave up on art. I am on the far side of 60 now, and only recently have I dared to occasionally try a craft project. With proper instruction, I managed to make a Christmas card using Iris folding. I was so proud of myself! I have made two very simple Steampunk-style necklaces, and a fairy house. All of these were projects offered at our local library. It took me 50 years, but I am giving artsy projects a second try!
I really appreciate your comment! I was just saying how I never felt creative as a kid, but now it's coming more! I'm so happy for you and your projects!
Isn't it so sad when we can pinpoint the moment when a dream faded? I'm sure that teacher would feel awful to know that this experience scared you away from crafts for so long! Often - its just a casual word or criticism.... and they never realize the damage caused.
Bravo to you for coming back to it and - have you posted your creations??? i would LOVE to see the necklaces AND the fairy house if you have a chance!!! please tag me if you post ;) (or tag me with the link!)
I haven't figured out tagging yet; I think there are some things I need to sign up for or something. I'm still learning how Steemit works. But I'll try to let you know somehow, if/when I post about these things!
Hehhehee you just use the @ sign with my name :)
Like this
@dreemsteem
And GINA will notify me that you said my name in your post (or a comment) 😊
You don't have to sign up anything to tag someone. You just need to sign up if you want to be notified when someone mentions your name :)
When you're ready for that upgrade... I HIGHLY recommend GINA :)
I've been reading about GINA. Gotta get that figured out soon! That's the signing up part I meant. Time to put on my big girl panties and figure that out!
hahahaha get them on! they're way more comfortable than bikini's or thongs! hehehehehehe
and yeah - i am like you. I thought it was going to be so confusing! but it was really a step by step thing where GINA held my hand the whole way! hehehehee
i hope you enjoy her! :)
I absolutely love it! There is nothing that will brighten up my day than watching other people enjoy art! Please continue- the simple fact that you love the things you create is SO valuable, and that can't be taught!
