What Supplements, If Any, Do You Take For Your Health?
Do you take any supplements for your health?
Following are what I take everyday:
DISCLAIMER: I'm not a physician, dietitian, or a nutritionist. This is all based on my own research on the internet. ;)
Fish Oil - Omega 3
Our bodies can't make Omega 3 fatty acids so we have to get this essential nutrient from our diet (fish, whole grains, fruits) or through supplements.
Benefits:
- Can help lower the risks of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer
- Helps with memory and performance
- Reduces inflammation

Vitamin B12:
With the rise in the number of people turning towards a vegan/vegetarian diet, people might be missing enough Vitamin B12 through food. If you aren't eating a healthy, balanced diet, you may be lacking sufficient amounts of it.
Benefits:
- Helps with cellular energy production
- Helps keep the body's blood cells and nerves healthy

Vitamin D
With everything being indoors in today's world (work, classes, exercise for some people), it's hard for people to get sufficient amounts of Vitamin D. I live in the Midwest and I can only go sun bathe for probably 5 months out of the year. Pretty depressing...
Many people aren't getting enough of this Vitamin and this can cause health problems. There are many articles out there that talk about how it's very very hard to get enough daily Vitamin D amount through food so it may be wise/crucial to take supplements in this case.
Benefits:
- Important for bone health
- Can improve muscle strength, balance, and function
- Boosts our immune system

Calcium
This doesn't need much explanation I think. We all know the benefits of Calcium when it comes to improving our bone health. Vitamin D also helps in absorption of Calcium.
Now, there's are many articles out there suggesting how it may be bad to take Calcium supplements but in moderation, it should not be a problem. Anything in excess is bad. Just don't take a lot of capsules in one sitting!
Benefits:
- Helps build strong bones and teeth
- Can help with PMS (I thought this was an interesting finding haha)
- Can improve heart, muscles, and nerves health

Probiotics
Our gut contains bacteria that are beneficial for us. They aid in digestion and food absorption. It's good to keep these little guys healthy so we get the full benefits from what we eat. Taking Probiotics can help support these good bacteria.
Benefits:
- Improved immune system
- Improved digestion and absorption of nutrients
- Keeping good bacteria in our digestive systems healthy and abundant

I take some kind of powdered vitamin and some omega oils too...
Grapefruit seed extract is great during flu season to ward off potential illness; Zinc is great for this as well.
It would be incredible to grow my own herbs at home one day, they have medicinal properties. And I'm not talking about that herb with five serrated leaves.
I've heard kombucha is great for health too, but it's kind of a hassle to make at home.
And you thought that all I was good at is getting angry with spammers!!! ☺
Stay healthy!
I had never heard of grapefruit seed extract and zinc for flu seasons. Will have to look into that! Also, I had kombucha once over the summer and I did not like it at all :/ I bought it at a local store though so maybe homemade ones are better? Another thing to do more research about! :D
hahaha. I agree it would be ideal to be able to grow our own herbs and veggies even! My parents do during the warm seasons in the Midwest so I get to eat some super organic vegetables for a few months every year.
You got it all figured out @overkillcoin! I see you mention you are usually so busy to put in a ton of work into those little videos. Healthy lifestyle sure is a LOT of work!
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! :)
Oh, yes, I never said kombucha tasted great, although I'm sure some brands are less acidic or fermented tasting... Homemade seemed better, but I'm sure a lot could go wrong as well ☺
Yep, they can be draining... Not that they're perfect, but I push myself to do my best within a reasonable time frame... I've worked on 5 hour projects with only a $9 payout, so I'm very careful to try to budget my time... ☺
I know, it'd help to have some extra $$$ to smooth things out. I really haven't kept up like I should... ☻
This is definitely very frustrating but you seem to have found your area of expertise here with your knowledgeable infographics and those funny gifs.
I'd be so happy if healthy fresh food didn't cost a million dollars. Idk where you live but eating healthy in America could easily bankrupt somebody haha.
Anyways, hopefully you find time for more funny posts for us and also to make some not-tooo-bad kombucha. If you do, don't forget to share the recipe with me :D
Vitamin D is like a must up in the midwest!
Since I'm vegetarian, I've learned that supplementing protein is my new best friend. It's really tough to get enough of it without supplementing imo.
Agreed! What proteins do you take? I've been taking whey and casein for the longest time. Planning on switching to some vegan style protein powder. Have yet to research this though haha
Informative post,
I would prefer to have proper diet of fruits, cereals, fish, egg, oil and something for mineral source. Instead of going for any tablets and all.
Cheer😊
I eat super healthy but with a busy schedule with classes and work, I can't always eat the best meal. Especially when I have to squeeze in lunch between classes/work haha. I take these just to fill in those gaps. :)
Probiotics have been amazing and a life saver for my gut. That is one supplement I am grateful for, as I had stomach problems for so long. Fish oil, vitamin d are both ones I use from time to time as well.
We can't do anything without our health in check! Great insight here @cabernet!
I've rarely ever heard people talk about Probiotics supplements so I always thought not very many people need/use it. Good to hear that it has been a life changer for you!
Thanks for stopping by @bitdollar!

Thanks for this informative post! I take fish oil and calcium on a regular basis, and the occasional whey when I need some extra protein intake. :)
I'll definitely try researching more on other supplements to use for a better lifestyle!
Protein shakes are super helpful when you don't have any snacks to hold you off for like an hour :P
Yes, I agree! Makes you feel full after finishing the whole thing. But I'll say that after drinking it everyday, I sort of hate whey for a while!
