Steem Debates #3 : Steemit Engagement Challenge

in Suggestions Club27 days ago

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Club system and the burnsteem25 debates.

Now we move on to the third topic - the Engagement Challenge.

Is the Engagement Challenge still a good way to create good content and encourage real engagement? Or is it time to try something new?

Engagement Challenge

The Steemit Engagement Challenge was introduced by Steemit Inc around two years ago.

It has now reached Season 18, with each season running for six weeks.

Every season, six (now five) communities are invited to apply to run the weekly contests along with the Crypto Academy.

To participate in the challenges people have to make response posts and also make comments on other participants' posts. They also have to be in the Club system and not powering down.

Each week each participating community selects three winners based on post quality and engagement.

The winners and the communities get votes from @steemcurator01.

The Pros

The Challenges have certainly generated a large amount of posts, comments and curation rewards.

They have also given participating communities considerable opportunity to build up the strength of their community accounts.

The Challenges have also encouraged Communities to develop their moderation skills.

The Cons

While a very large number of posts have been created for the Challenges, the quality of those posts has been very mixed.

With the Engagement Challenge having now been running for more than a hundred weeks, and with six or seven Challenges each week, it is inevitable that the quality of the Challenges has been variable.

Some of the Challenges have been very good and have encouraged the creation of interesting and creative content.

Others have not been so good and the resulting posts have been of poor quality.

The requirement of active engagement to participate in the Challenges is increasingly giving rise to large amounts of inert AI generated comments.

What Do You Think?

Is the Engagement Challenge still a good thing?

Should it be kept in its current form?

Should it be modified?

Or should it be dropped?

If the Engagement Challenge ended what should take its place?

What are your ideas?

Alongside the Diary Game, the Engagement Challenge has been a major content generator on Steem for the past two years.

Has the Engagement Challenge still got legs?

Or is time to hang up its boots?

If not Engagement Challenge what should take its place?

It is an engaging challenge to think what could replace the Engagement Challenge.

Maybe Steemit is just waiting for our ideas...

Thank you

A very interesting question. Thank you for explaining in detail what the Steemit Engagement Challenge is. I already wrote my opinion about this, but I didn't fully understand what the Steemit Engagement Challenge was.

And so, the thought is as follows:

100 weeks, waw!!!

Based on your explanation, it seems to me that the contest communities benefit the most. Whether it helps the users and the Steemit platform itself is a very big question.

To be honest, now Steemit resembles a platform where beginner freelancers who write purely for contests have gathered.
In my opinion, it would be much more interesting if Steemit began to transform into a top platform for cryptoblogging, where authors who are interesting to read have gathered.

No matter how cool it is, reading competitive works is not as interesting as reading blogs. Therefore, I believe that the Steemit Engagement Challenge is something that needs to change.

What changes do I propose:

  • seasonality (once a quarter),
  • contest ideas should be aimed at creating content that can be interesting even after a long time
  • add contests for writing artistic and scientific stories

add contests for writing artistic and scientific stories

I especially liked this last part. It sounds interesting and fun at the same time.

It is nice that there are similar discussions where you can freely express your opinion and make proposals.

Life has taught me that if you don't like something, don't criticize, but look for options and make suggestions.

It's like that...and this week and a half of Steem Debates has been very interesting. Surely gentlemen sc01 sc02 are taking note. On the other hand, debates like these and the involvement of so many people speak of the strength of the platform.

I'm delighted to share my thoughts on this topic.

Arround 2 years ago, an initiative was launched to keep people engaged on this platform, reading posts carefully and commenting thoughtfully to create meaningful engagement and build connections. The initiative successfully, running for 18 seasons and three weeks, active users increased and the communities grew.

However, human nature is such that when something is repeated too much, interest wanes.

I've noticed some things deeply, like how people don't practically do anything, just recycling the same topic for more than 30 weeks, doing research on the internet, and writing about it in their own words. In reality, different people are writing the same thing in different ways for many weeks, which I don't think is beneficial. I wouldn't want to read the same topic repeatedly myself, and maybe you'll agree. And obviously, if no one reads, there's no point in commenting.

If not Engagement Challenge what should take its place?

Its time to shake things Up and Bring back the Excitement!

We desperately need announcements that inspire content creators and offer a glimmer of hope. Something practical and attractive. I vividly remember a @steemitblog announcement that linked initiatives with specific tags,

and I believe it's time to take action on that. If not, then we need something similar that generates interest. I'm sharing my thoughts because I'm a Steemit lover and want to see it growing.

The decision ultimately lies with Respected The Steemit Team. If they like the idea, let's make it happen!

Thank You.

I vividly remember a @steemitblog announcement that linked initiatives with specific tags

Linking specific tags to each author's own tastes and interests is an excellent way to promote creativity without restricting the writer's freedom of thought. It would be good to get back to that.

Thats what content creator need . Because i think there would be some thing practical . Similar to #mytown10pics it was really interesting .

Do you know about that?
People enjoyed it a lot . Like visiting different places and sharing what 3 words codes for that place

I returned back to Steemit after a couple of years and was surprised to see there were absolutely no posts in #mytown10pics so I posted it again. I think we need to bring back good old interactive tags

Hi , Brother welcome back .good to see your comment

was surprised to see there were absolutely no posts in #mytown10pics so I posted it again.

Thats what i am saying we need to be announced something practical or similar to it .

Is the Engagement Challenge still good?

This is a question that we must answer every week, well, each week brings different challenges, some communities promote good dynamics or topics with which we can develop good content, this will keep the minds of content creators busy.

Should it be kept in its current form?

I like the new approach that the Steemit team promotes, by asking communities to share, through their application, the topics they will address if they are selected for the contest challenge, that way we can know which are the most creative and originals that there may be contests during the month.

Should it be modified? / Or should it be abandoned?

My way of thinking is that if something works, then it shouldn't be removed, in which case it should be modified to make it fit. All communities promote contests, they just choose 7 for the challenge, which I don't see anything wrong with. Regarding the quality of the publications, this is somewhat ambiguous, there will always be participation with different quality, it is a matter for those responsible to select the best ones.

If the Engagement Challenge were to end, what should take its place?

From my experience, everything that is done will have users for and against, even more so if the dynamic that is promoted is supported by the votes of SC01 and 02. I can think of a way to promote content under a free scheme, that is, That is, outside the communities but depending on them, I will explain it to you below.

Each month interested communities must share at least 5 topics for the challenge, this will generate at least 40 topics to promote during the month, the Steemit team will select 6 or 7 topics each week, these will be developed under a free tag, for example, #scw1-write. The same Steemit team will select the moderators for each contest, as if it were a curation team, to moderate each entry for a given contest, this should change each week depending on the number of users (community moderators available), the moderators must present the winners of the contest after a discussion on discord.

As far as I am concerned, I take part in 2-3 selected contests every week, but to be honest, I am not satisfied with the way the contests limit creativity.

I agree that all users of this platform are not professional writers, so the guidelines in the form of questions provide them with a basis to work on their articles. However, I am of the firm belief that this format of the contest is a demotivating factor for most established writers, and they stay away from all these contests.

I believe the contests are okay, but we can divide them into two parts. One, the users can write on dotted lines, and two, the users can write their posts as they wish to explain the topic without any headings or subheadings but in a free-flowing style.

We shall have to look into the selection process by the communities too, as some of the selections are subpar, which is a demotivating factor for most better authors.

Finally, selection based on the number of comments is definitely inviting spam, as most users do nothing but repeat what the author has written in his post, which adds no value to the content.

I agree with you on that, friend @dove11... If we think of "quality content", one imagines writing, style, depth of content, layout of the publication, use of tags... in short, that it is fresh, interesting and fun to read.

He pensado mucho en mi blog, hacerlo único y productivo.

Great entry brother, so informative. Keep steeming!

Not really an entry, it's a debate....read the post properly to comment well! This is one of the problems we are facing with engagement challange. People don't read post before commenting and most times their comments are off the main discussed topics.

Should engagement challange be continued or stop..

This is still a great entry because steemians would stop a moment and realize if what they really did the right thing or just glance the post and say 2 words. And I guess engagement chllenge has to be continue because in this way many steemians would really read a post so they can comment something.

I think the engagement challenge is not about work. We should get out of it.Because each engagement week writers write on a specific topic. Almost same writing and same content.I think creative writing is one of the best things a writer can do without choosing a topic.I think we must get out of the engagement challenge.
