Scrolling Through Followers Sucks
Small gripe. But this is a beta, so it's worth mentioning for future developmental areas...
I've noticed that I get a trickling of new followers daily. Not many, but a few. The problem is that there's no good way to sort them (like by the date they started following me or ONLY by those that I'm already following or by interests or...so on and so forth). There's simply nothing there to help sort the profiles. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch.
I can't even imagine what it must be like for people who've got twice, three times, or even four times the amount of followers that I do. Maybe they just don't even bother scrolling through to see who the new folks are. Maybe they just follow everyone indiscriminately. Who knows?
But it sucks. I'd love to find out who my new followers are since most don't leave comments that they're now following; the ones that do leave comments are simply spamming everyone with the same bullshit rather than helping tell me that I'm creating content that they genuinely enjoy reading. THOSE are the people I want to follow back. The creators of interesting content themselves are also ones I want to follow back.
But who's got the time to click on every follower's profile to figure out if they're personally worth following back? I sure as shit don't have that kind of time. And I can't, realistically, do it multiple times a week, much less multiple times a month. That's a huge time suck that's not worth doing.
So, perhaps in future iterations of the site, that small change could be implemented? It would go a LONG way in helping people weed out the crap profiles and focus on curating the content worth curating, which is kinda the whole point of the site, right?
Just a thought.
In the beginning of my Steemit-land blogging I would look at every follower's profile and follow back, then came the first big wave of spammers and I started only following people that posted creative content, now, however, I am so far behind that I feel like Artax stuck in a bog when it comes to managing followers (loved the reference btw!).
You are so not alone in thinking that an improvement could be developed and implemented! Thanks for bringing it up! Perhaps one of the genius dev folks around here will drop us a morsel of time management hope, lol!
here's hopin! and honestly, like i said, it's a small thing, but i think a couple small changes there would make some huge ripples/waves across the entire platform, honestly. if it were easier for me to mutually follow people of certain interests, that would go a long way in helping out those who might be just starting out or who have been largely ignored.
glad i'm not the only one who has thought about this!
i think many people agree agree with your comment. great opinion.
That is a pretty good idea! I was thinking of writing a post the other day about something similar but I guess someone has done it already - a way to sort out the content of your own blog or put it into subfolders that people can find easily in the future. The platform will only become bigger and I'd like to be able to find peoples older content or a certain topic of their blogs not having to scroll down forever in search of it. Just another thought in the future development of the website. :)
that'd be a good one too...like a retrospective of one's posts based on their tags? it would certainly make them more easily searchable. or perhaps a date filter that would show you everything from march of 2017 or september of 2016. i like it!
I use an outside website for this. Track your Steem Followers Here (new followers, people who un-follow you, and those who mute you)
The tool was created by @shaunmza
Cheers!
This is a really handy tool - thanks for sharing!
I doubt I'm getting any rewards for this anymore, but check out my other post on the Various Tools that I use in My Daily Steem Life :)
You know, I think I may have read that one when it came out! I use a lot of those tools every day.
Must have been out of voting power then but but have one on your comment to make up for it!
Thanks! It's all good either way. I'm just glad to help the community :)
I'm glad you found it helpful!
a solid outside source for sure. (really solid, actually) but i was speaking in terms of something more inclusive to the site. it's a pretty decently researched thing that when users leave a site, it's harder to bring them back.
now this may not be the case for the average steemit user, but having this kind of tool built in to the site would keep more users here rather than send them elsewhere and possibly lose them to the ADD nature of the average internet user. more inclusive tools makes the site significantly more user-friendly and workable.
but, again, that's a damn fine workaround for sure!
Very true. It's always easier to stay on a site rather than float around multiple pages and flip back and forth between the various pages.
There are a few tools that help you see who followed and unfollowed you by date. @evolved08gsr mentioned one in this thread which is https://steem.makerwannabe.com/
For the most part I don't worry too much about it. My hope is that if they're following that means they might read something, and if they read something they might comment. If the comment is valuable I'm bound to check out their profile and maybe even follow back.
And as I wrote a few days ago, the people who I really enjoy reading on a regular basis get bookmarked in my browser menu for regular check-ins. You're in there, by the way!
i appreciate it, brother! i feel like i need to do my own bookmarks thing too.
but, i've no idea who else is adding to the content pool unless i go back several hours. perhaps there's someone from the other side of the globe who posts up 12 hours later than i do, so i never see their posts? i'd like to be able to curate my own "following" list to a specific point that's more to my liking based on content produced blah blah blah...you're pickin up what i'm puttin down.
and it's a small thing, but it's a thing.
Excellent idea. I think this is awesome to be able to sort followers by when they started following you. This would be a great way for people to increase engagement on there
i was thinking the exact same thing. it would certainly help me find new followers who may be producing great content, but get little to no attention from the vast majority of users for whatever reason.
You have hit some great point i this post and i solute you for sharing , i also followed
I know right, steemit is in beta, steemit is in beta. I just did an audit on my followers' list to see the people I followed back, back in the days when I was still new. Then I found out those who unfollowed everyone, and are only following the popular people here. Cheeky. There are some important changes, need to be made. Perhaps changes more important and more useful than being able to change the cover photo lol.
As always steemit is in beta. ^^

good to see your awesome content.
FYI, and maybe some of you know this, but for now, if you go to steemdb.com you can look up your followers. they are listed in order of following you, most recent first. you can click on their name to get the profile summary and see a summary of their activity.

not bad, but i think i like the solution given up by @evolved08gsr earlier in the thread. it seems to be a little more user friendly.
but like i replied there:

oh, i agree, it could be more user friendly and incorporated into the site. I just wanted to point out that in the meantime, this app, which was developed perhaps last summer (not sure exactly) offers the info people might be looking for.
Sounds like a good idea. I'm new here and I'm an artist, I plan on sharing my art, and tips on being an Artrepreneur and maybe even some of my music since I also play a few instruments :) I've been seeing people posting to get me to sign up for bot votes etc.. and I'm not sure I follow exactly what it's all about yet but I hope to stick around and learn.
yeah, i'd recommend staying away from signing up for bot votes and simply hyping your own work, the work of others that you love, and pretty much anything that tickles your fancy. i'm following you now to see what you'll bring to the steemit table. welcome, brother!
I hope my work will resonate with the actual people here! lol It's different from other platforms. So far I'm probably more confused than clear on how things work, but I remember I was confused on Facebook at first too lol Glad you want to follow along I hope you like what you see!
