RE: Unintentionally funny -- Unbeabsichtigt witzig
Thanks so much Folker!
"Were the streakers men or women? - I don’t know. They had bags over their heads."
"Waren die Flitzer Männer oder Frauen? - Keine Ahnung, sie hatten sich Tüten über den Kopf gezogen."
That is a very good translation.
"I want to thank everyone for making this night necessary."
"Ich möchte allen danken, die diese Nacht notwendig gemacht haben."
Also a very good translation -- I suspect this is the only one that Yogi said intentionally.
My guess is that most of the others are simply Yogi-ism, he simply confused one word for another "Watergate" instead of "Waterloo," or "humility" for "humidity," etc. -- but humor generally suffers when one has to explain what's funny.
I don't think he spent any time trying to come with Yogi-ism. In any case, he was a true character.
Here, for example, is a great baseball player telling an actual Yogi story. This gives you an idea of what they were like, and how they came about.
He was truly loved.
Your guess is as good as mine. However, some of the things he said are downright philosophical.
Me neither. But some people are just naturally clever; always a quick, witty comeback on hand.
Yeah, that he was :-)
Cheers!
